Pistons Acquire Isaiah Joe From Thunder For Two Second Round Picks
The Detroit Pistons have acquired Isaiah Joe from the Oklahoma City Thunder for two future second round picks. The Pistons have entered the offseason looking to add more shooting around Cade Cunningham.
The Pistons had planned on pursuing Austin Reaves and Coby White in free agency before they reached agreements with their incumbent teams.
Joe appeared in 71 games last season with the Thunder, averaging 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 21.7 minutes while shooting 42.3 percent on three-pointers. In the playoffs, Joe only averaged 4.8 points in 11.0 minutes across 13 games as he played sparingly against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.
Joe is on a declining four-year, $48 million contract and will make $11.3 million this coming season. The Pistons will hold a team option on Joe's contract for the 2027-28 season at $11.3 million.
Joe is represented by Michael Conley, Sr. and turns 27 in July.

Celtics, Pistons Considering Jaylen Brown For Jalen Duren Trade
The Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons are considering a Jaylen Brown trade that would involve Jalen Duren being the centerpiece of the deal on a sign-and-trade.
The Pistons have entered the offseason aggressively looking to add a shot creator beside Cade Cunningham with Austin Reaves, Tyler Herro, Norman Powell and Coby White as potential targets. Reaves and White have already agreed to re-sign with their incumbent teams.
Meanwhile, the Pistons and Duren have been far apart on contract talks, which has led to the expectation that the All-NBA big man would explore his options in restricted free agency.
In 70 regular season games, Duren averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 28.2 minutes with a PER of 25.8. But in 14 playoff games, Duren averaged just 10.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists with a PER of 14.3.
The Celtics are prioritizing getting bigger and more versatile this offseason following their first round exit to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston previously offered Brown in a package to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Kawhi Leonard Would Not Extend With Pistons If Traded To Detroit
The Detroit Pistons, along with the Toronto Raptors, are known to have had some interest in trading for LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard. However, Leonard has indicated that he would not be receptive to signing an extension with the Pistons. That appears to have lessened, if not ended, Detroit's desire to trade for the veteran forward.
Leonard has indicated that he'd be willing to sign an extension with the Raptors. A trade to Toronto would be a return to the city he helped lead to the 2019 title.
It also appears that Leonard would be willing to sign an extension with the San Antonio Spurs. It's unclear if the Spurs would be willing to bring the 15-year veteran back to where he played the first seven seasons of his NBA career.

Jalen Duren To Explore Sign-And-Trade Options As Talks With Pistons Stall
Jalen Duren is dissatisfied with the Detroit Pistons' initial restricted free agent offer and is preparing to explore sign-and-trade scenarios when permitted Tuesday, league sources told Sam Amick of The Athletic.
Duren, 22, is eligible for a five-year, $287.1 million maximum contract after earning All-NBA third team honors. Sources say the gap between the two sides is substantial enough that Duren is now considering ways to land elsewhere. A sign-and-trade is viewed as the preferred path over an offer sheet, which the Pistons could match.
Duren averaged 19.5 points on 65 percent shooting and 10 rebounds across 70 regular season games, finishing sixth leaguewide in Player Impact Estimate behind Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic and Kawhi Leonard. His production helped Detroit post a 60-22 record, the franchise's best since 2005-06.
But Duren's play dropped off dramatically in the playoffs. In 14 games against the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers, Duren averaged just 10.2 points on 51.4 percent shooting and 8.5 rebounds before the Pistons were eliminated in the second round.
Duren is represented by Chafie Fields of The Team. Fields also represents fellow restricted free agent Tari Eason of the Houston Rockets.
With Duren potentially available via sign-and-trade, questions are mounting about whether Detroit would engage in those discussions alongside their pursuit of external upgrades. League sources say the Pistons had serious interest in Austin Reaves before he re-signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. They have also been connected to Jaylen Brown, Leonard and Tyler Herro.
Detroit also faces an extension decision on 23-year-old first-team All-Defense selection Ausar Thompson, whose deal could reach five years and $162 million.
"Obviously, JD and AT will be expensive," said Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon in May. "Once that happens, the optionality decreases. This isn't a one-year thing. We have to keep that in mind as well."
The Pistons traded center Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday for three second-round picks. Veteran forward Tobias Harris is an unrestricted free agent, while Duncan Robinson could be waived to generate cap flexibility, with only $2 million of his $15.9 million salary guaranteed.

Lakers Improved Offer To Austin Reaves From $30M Per Year To $46M With Pistons In Pursuit
The Los Angeles Lakers initially were offering Austin Reaves a contract worth approximately $30 million per season, but raised it on Wednesday to over $46 million per season.
The improved terms came from the Lakers as it became clear that there were multiple teams, most notably the Detroit Pistons, preparing a four-year, $179 million maximum offer to Reaves.
"Austin Reaves, from what I understand, two days ago was somewhere around $30 million per year in his offer from the Lakers," said Brian Windhorst on Thursday's episode of First Take. "A very good contract. A far cry from what they offered him yesterday. What they offered him yesterday and he agreed to was more than $45 million per year. That's a 50 percent increase in like 24 hours.
"Why? Leverage. Because the Detroit Pistons were lining it up. You saw last night they made to move off Isaiah Stewart. That cleared salary cap space."
Reaves will make $41.3 million in Year 1 of his four-year, $185 million contract.

Grizzlies Acquire Isaiah Stewart From Pistons For Three 2nd Rounders
The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired Isaiah Stewart from the Memphis Grizzlies for three second round picks.
The Pistons clear salary cap space with their trade of Stewart who has been on the block throughout June. Detroit is planning on pursuing an upgrade in terms of shot creation and perimeter shooting to lessen the burden on offense carried by Cade Cunningham.
The Pistons have been linked with Coby White and Norman Powell in free agency, along with a potential trade for Tyler Herro.
Stewart has $30 million over two seasons remaining on his contract with a team option for the 2027-28 season.
Stewart appeared in 58 games last season, averaging 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 22.7 minutes.
Paul Reed Jr. emerged in backup center minutes for the Pistons behind Jalen Duren.
"Detroit is setting themselves up to be the story of this offseason," said Brian Windhorst in response to the trade as the Pistons position themselves for a significant upgrade.

Pistons Interested In Norman Powell, Coby White, Tyler Herro
The Detroit Pistons have added Norman Powell to their list of free agent targets this offseason. The Pistons also have Coby White as a possible free agent along with Austin Reaves, who is widely expected to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Additionally, the Pistons have trade interest in Tyler Herro, Isaiah Joe, Trey Murphy III and Kyrie Irving.
After trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Miami Heat have an even greater need to re-sign Powell but their financial mechanisms in doing so are more limited because they are hard capped at the first apron.
Powell averaged 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 29.6 across 58 games in his first season with the Heat as he was also named an All-Star for the first time in his career. Powell recently turned 33 and is represented by Jason Glushon.
Trajan Langdon is prioritizing increased shooting and playmaking around Cade Cunningham as that need was magnified in their seven-game series against the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Pistons must also re-sign Jalen Duren in restricted free agency, Tobias Harris in unrestricted free agnecy, as well as a possible rookie scale extension with Ausar Thompson.

Isaiah Stewart Receiving Trade Interest From Bucks, Celtics, Spurs, Heat
Isaiah Stewart is bracing for a trade from the Detroit Pistons this offseason as they put him on the trade block in order to balance out their roster with more shooting.
Stewart is receiving interest from several teams including the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
The Pistons are believed to be ready to rely more on Paul Reed as the backup center behind Jalen Duren, who they will presumably re-sign in restricted free agency.
Stewart has $30 million over two seasons remaining on his contract with a team option for the 2027-28 season.
Stewart appeared in 58 games last season, averaging 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 22.7 minutes.

Pistons Interested In Trading For Isaiah Joe
Isaiah Joe could be traded this offseason as the Oklahoma City Thunder navigate luxury tax and second apron concerns with the Detroit Pistons a team said to have interest. The Pistons are attempting to put more perimeter shooting around Cade Cunningham.
Joe appeared in 71 games last season, averaging 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 21.7 minutes while shooting 42.3 percent on three-pointers. In the playoffs, Joe only averaged 4.8 points in 11.0 minutes across 13 games as he played sparingly against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.
Joe is on a declining four-year, $48 million contract with the Thunder and will make $11.3 million this coming season. The Thunder hold a team option on Joe's contract for the 2027-28 season at $11.3 million.
Joe is represented by Michael Conley, Sr. and turns 27 in July.
