The Nanogram, or Nonogram Katana, is a hybrid graphical crossword puzzle game that originated from Japan that combines logic, figurative thinking, with pixel art. Nonograms are puzzles in which cells in a grid must be filled or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid.
The aim of the puzzle is to completely assemble an image using numbers listed at the left and top of the crossword puzzle that describe groups of shaded cells (going in a row, without gaps) horizontally and vertically, respectively.
This is a picture logic puzzle in which cells in a grid must be colored in or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to unveil a hidden picture. To solve the Nonogram puzzle, follow the clues that will help you color the squares to complete the line and choose which of them have to stay empty. If you fill in all the right squares in this picture crossword puzzle, you will uncover the encrypted pixel art picture.
To solve a puzzle, one needs to determine which cells will be boxes and which will be empty. Determining which cells are to be left empty (called spaces) is as important as determining which to fill (called boxes). Later in the solving process, the spaces help determine where a clue (continuing block of boxes and a number in the legend) may spread.
Nonograms are also known as griddlers, hanjie, picross, pictocross, pictogram or kakuro.
