• Bite By Night is setting a dangerous precedent for fangames

  Listen, I’m not trying to be negative for the sake of it. The game might be good. It might even be great. I’m sure a lot of work went into it.

  That doesn’t make this situation any less messed up.

  Bite by Night is a Roblox async multiplayer game using Five Nights at Freddy’s characters and locations. It hit nearly 300k concurrent players on day one. And it is monetized. Not in some vague, indirect way, but straight up monetized. There is a store. There are purchases. Real money is involved.

  I’ve been making fangames for 10 years. This has always been the line you do not cross. You do not profit off someone else’s IP without permission.

  People keep trying to downplay it with “you can unlock everything in-game.” That doesn’t matter. The moment you let players spend real money, it becomes a commercial product. That’s it.

  On GameJolt, if you even tag your project as a fangame, your ad revenue gets cut. You are not allowed to earn anything. Back when ads were still a thing, you’d be lucky to make 10 or 15 dollars a month. That’s the standard fangame devs have been held to for years.

  If you actually want to do things properly, you go through Scott and the Fanverse. I did that. Two years of work on a pitch. Blood, sweat, stress, constant back and forth. All of that just for a chance at approval, and it still didn’t happen.

  Meanwhile, Bite by Night skips every single step, ignores every rule that’s been established, launches a fully monetized FNaF game on Roblox, and nothing happens. No takedown. No immediate action. Instead, they might get licensed after the fact while already making thousands a day off someone else’s IP.

  And then people say, “how would they pay their devs?”

  Fangame devs don’t get paid.

  It’s the opposite. It costs you money. You either find people willing to model, animate, or program for free, or you pay them out of your own pocket. That’s how this space has always worked.

  The fact they’re running a live service game says everything. You don’t build something like that unless you expect ongoing income. This wasn’t some accidental side effect of the platform. Making money was part of the plan from the start.

  Which, again, is exactly what you are not allowed to do.

  So how is this okay?

  We’ve seen projects get hit for way less. Popgoes had their Patreon taken down for using Shadow Bonnie in exclusive content. That was too far. But this is fine? A full game making real money is suddenly acceptable?

  So what exactly are the rules now?

  Because from the outside, it looks like there aren’t any. It looks like you can ignore the system, launch anyway, make money, and deal with it later. And if the worst outcome is getting licensed, then why would anyone bother doing it the right way?

  That’s the precedent this sets.

  It completely disrespects every fangame developer who’s been playing by the rules for years, working for free, doing it out of passion, and staying within the boundaries that were set.

  I don’t care how good the game is. Letting this slide is a slap in the face to the entire fangame community.

  F: I was playing tag with William Afton who was dressed as Jackrabbit. He told me Foxy had a gift for me! I had the pizzeria all to myself! Dad was getting talked to, and Mom was fixing things. So I played tag and ran around. Then I felt something sharp and painful, I was getting tagged with a knife. I screamed and ran! And I kept getting stabbed! In my eye,my arm, my head..till I.. died..then I was Foxy....

  F: what's..what's wrong?

  C: I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry Fritz!!

  F: well, I kill, and the more we kill, the warmer we feel, the more my skin gets colored, I slowly, come back.

• [Meta] PinkyPills, the former artist for Scottgames revealed she has been and continued to receive death threats and harassment. She also addressed the incident in May 2024 and what happened between her and Scott Cawthon. Content warnings in the post

  Before I talk more about the situation, I need to address that this is not another drama post about PinkyPills or Scott Cawthon, and is not made with the intent to dig up dirt. This is something a lot more serious.

  As you know, PinkyPills worked for Scott until 2025, and there was controversy from back in 2024 when Scott defended her after a megathread post was made, which caused backlash on Reddit. That's not what this post is about. PinkyPills spoke up and not only cleared up a lot of what happened at the time, she also revealed that even after she left, she still has been receiving harassment and death threats from FNaF fans. It gets worse than that, she was also dealing with false Gen AI allegations and saw that several artists getting attacked because they shared similar art styles.

  She's not doing OK because of the constant pressure and hostility from the fandom. She lost her passion for art, was breaking down more often, and is currently unsure about her current position. There was no bad blood with her and Scott Cawthon, it's just a slew of bad actors are making things worse for her and the people who had nothing to do with her. I know people are not fond of her and would go like "well, she deserved it", though I can't bring myself to let this slip by unnoticed, especially the whole "other people unrelated to her are getting hurt over this" issue.

  Hey, FNaF community. I would like to talk to you.

  I've been receiving hate now for years and dealing with extreme harassment and repeated threats of violence, "kill yourself" messages, and completely unfounded accusations that I'm a pedophile, threats to knock my teeth out, or people saying my child should be taken away from me. Those are just a few examples. Over time, I tried to cope with it and somehow I managed.

  Back when I was still working for Scott, he always told me that I was in a position where I had to deal with harsh feedback. And he reassured me that the community's attitude would never affect our working relationship. That gave me always a lot of strength back then.

  I also endured the fact that other content creators, even people I was personally friends with, kept their distance from me in public. I told myself it was okay. I was working for Scott Cawthon. Hey, that made it worth it somehow. But now I'm on my own again and I think I underestimated what that means mentally. I'm not really doing well now.

  The constant pressure and hostility are starting to affect me a lot. I have trouble sleeping. I can barely concentrate and I can feel myself slipping into a depressive state. I'm losing the joy I used to have in my work and my desire to draw. And that has never happened to me before. Never had art blocks like this. I'm also crying a lot and it's especially hard when you have four year old child who keeps asking why mom's crying all the time.

  I know that a big part of this community is very young and I understand that online communities especially gaming communities can become toxic very quickly but there are limits kind of, and I feel like I'm about to reach mine.

  The reason why I'm no longer working with Scott is that we disagreed in May 2024 about how to handle the Reddit backlash. The solution at the time was for me to continue working as a ghost artist without credit, which I did for about a year, but it just didn't feel right to me. The statement I posted on Twitter back then wasn't really mine. It was a mistake to post it. But I was very afraid of losing my job completely. That would have been the alternative that was presented to me.

  I know that many people don't like my art style and that's completely okay. But what's happening goes far beyond that. People are making things up that I use AI, that I was fired, them are comparing me to Hitler and yeah, kind of hurts. And of course, that AI stuff and so on is not true. I've seen other artists getting attacked just because their art style resembles mine. I've documented all the facts about my work and the controversies clearly on my website, but it often feels like facts just don't matter to people anymore.

  Scott and I, we were friends and he's really a good person and I really enjoyed working with him, but the pressure from the community didn't spare that friendship and that hurts me on a very personal level. One Twitter comment that really stuck with me was, "you had everything and ruined it." And honestly, that one hit hard because in a way, it feels true. I was happy and I had something that meant a lot to me.

  And I often find myself wondering what would have happened if I had spoken up about certain things earlier or if I just had been more careful. I chose my path and I knew what it meant to work as a freelancer without a major client, but I didn't expect the aggression to keep escalating just because I continue to exist and share my portfolio.

  I have so many projects and ideas and I still want to realize them, but lately I just don't have the strength anymore. I honestly don't even know what I want to achieve with this video. I just feel like I don't have anyone left to talk about this. People have either distant themselves or they are not part of this business and can't really understand it.

  I just have this feeling that something is building up and I can't quite grasp it yet. I know this might sound stupid. Yeah. But I just don't know what to do anymore. Anyway, bye.

  • PinkyPills addressed the situation about the 2024 Reddit situation in more detail. When she and Scott talked about how to handle the situation, she was given to the option to remain uncredited. She accepted, but she wasn't happy and departed about a year later. She even said that the post she made on Twitter regrading her stepping down wasn't written by her, hence why it was deleted. She did not say who wrote it.

  • PinkyPills was more than just a client for Scott Cawthon, she's also very good friends with him and is very supportive. This explains why he defended her and why PinkyPills was upset with the backlash towards him. Pinky even addressed all the controversies to him when it was brought to her attention and he forgave her for a lot of it.

  • PinkyPills indirectly caused a ripple effect where other artists got harassed because of her, mainly because they have similar art styles. She also dealt with false Gen AI allegations, death threats and more. This was affecting her pretty badly as she couldn't sleep and broke down a lot, causing her kid to worry about her.

  • PinkyPills had her friends and other content creators distance themselves from her publicly while she was working for Scott Cawthon. She didn't say when this happened and didn't mind it until she left the franchise. She's now in a position where she has no one to talk to and is not certain about her future as an artist. She lost passion for her craft from constant pressure and harassment from the FNaF community, even long after she left.

  • Her video clears up everything that had happened in 2024. Scott Cawthon wanted to protect PinkyPills because he knows that she's an upstanding person and a great client to work with. Scott's solution for the backlash was for PinkyPills to remain uncredited moving forward. She disagreed with it, but accepted it because she didn't want to lose her job even if Scott had no reason to fire her. This is Scott Cawthon willing to take the bullet in order to protect his clients.

  Even if you are not a fan of PinkyPills, no one deserved to have their life or passion ruined, especially when your kid keeps asking you "Mommy, why are you crying all the time?" or that other artists get attacked because they assume they were you. If you believe that PinkyPills is lying about her relationship with Scott Cawthon as a client to cover herself, then I need to address that Phisnom was given a similar contract where he is not allowed to say false truths about the FNaF franchise or Scott Cawthon, or else he's be held in contempt of court. PinkyPills is in that same position.

  I hope the mods are OK with this post being up. This post is made with the intent to address what's been going on with PinkyPills and to clear up a previously misunderstood situation from a few months ago, as she just put forward. Of course, you're free to not like her and criticize her. I just want to put this out to spread awareness that the old drama was finally cleared up and what's been going on with PinkyPills since her departure.
