EA is shutting down BF4 on PlayStation.
submitted by /u/llslothll to r/battlefield_4 [link] [comments]
I've been hosting Sloth Alliance servers on PlayStation for over five years. About a month ago, we noticed the option to renew or create new servers disappeared from the server menu. After checking with other long-time hosts (Smokeys, DIXS, Pro, Shanghai All Day, Durka), they all confirmed the same issue. This means once a server expires, it's gone for good. Our Premiums server has already been lost because we couldn't renew it.
If existing servers aren't renewed in the next few weeks, they will permanently shut down.
I don't know if this is EA trying to quietly shut down Battlefield 4 communities, push people to Battlefield 2042, or just force players into Quick Match using DICE-owned servers. Either way, it feels like we've been abandoned. To make it worse, there's been no official announcement, and as many of you know, the EA forums are completely useless no answers, no updates.
Please share this. We need visibility before more community servers disappear.

Is Battlefield 6 about to double down on classes and weapon locking?
submitted by /u/XfactorGaming to r/Battlefield [link] [comments]
Strict class definitions and weapons for classes has always been an integral part of the Battlefield franchise and the paper, rock and scissor aspect of choices and gameplay style.
Do you think after tremendous blowback DICE and EA are going to make changes reflecting core titles such as BC2, BF3 and BF4 which they said they would model Battlefield 6 after or are we going to have to bite the bullet and have yet another reimagination of the Battlefield franchise?

I Really Like Attrition
submitted by /u/KaijuTia to r/BattlefieldV [link] [comments]
This is probably an unpopular opinion, especially if you main vehicles, but I really enjoy the attrition system in BFV. It’s probably my favorite mechanical change alongside fortifications because it adds an element that previous Battlefield games were lacking: the concept that cumulative damage matters.
For infantry health, the major effect was to make medics feel more useful. The medic class always suffered from a “why bother” problem, where people wouldn’t really play with the class because it wasn’t really necessary. Sure, it could come in handy in a pinch, but why run medic when all anyone has to do is just hide behind cover and wait a few seconds to get back to full health? Now, wounds you receive have lasting effects, meaning you need to either visit an aid station (which means you need Support to build them) or you find a medic.
But where attrition really matters is vehicle combat. Previous Battlefields all had a problem where you needed to do ALL the necessary damage to a vehicle practically at once, because the window for engagement is so small. We’ve all probably encountered unkillable arty trucks in BF1 who can pummel you with impunity and then duck behind a sand dune to repair if you dare try and engage. If you’re just a teeny bit too slow in meting out damage, the vehicle can scurry behind cover and self-repair. And now it’s back to full health and you and your buddies don’t get back the equipment you used.
So that made people extremely reluctant to engage vehicles except in the VERY infrequent circumstances where a kill is virtually assured. Going back and playing BF4 makes this issue stunningly clear. And that means vehicles get to run wild because no one wants to risk using up their RPG ammo for zero return.
Attrition helps mitigate that. Sure, your panzerfaust might not kill that tank, but that damage you do will still matter, because it will stick around unless the tank retreats to either a repair station or hunts down a Support player to repair them. So even if the damage doesn’t destroy them, it can still take them out of a fight for long enough to provide meaningful consequences. This also affects ammo to a small degree, where the infinite ammo of previous versions isn’t gone, but your ready rack means that once you deplete it, you either need to go find a rearm station or fall back until you can slowly replenish your ready rack from your infinite store.
Attrition helps mitigate the BF4 problem of vehicles being potentially overpowered because they can absorb a theoretically infinite amount of damage, so long as the damage doesn’t occur in chunks big enough to outright kill it. You can do 99 damage to a tank from now till the Second Coming, but if it escapes that last 1 damage, it’s as if the engagement never happened. By making every hit count, it encourages infantry to engage vehicles outside what would normally be guaranteed kill windows. That helps infantry and adds some dynamism and strategy to vehicle combat that imo order titles lacked.
